Conceiving efficient marketing research tools, able to generate accurate and real data helps to prove scientifically the decision making in marketing. Starting from this practical need in market research, in the contemporary informational society, new ways of action and advancement appear due to the development of marketing, as well as the progress of information technology and the human brain scanning and magnetic resonance imaging techniques. In 2013, in the European Union, a flagship project began to support the development of researches concerning the carrying out of a human-type brain entitled: Human Brain Project, as part of Horizon 2020 FET (HBP, 2017). This project will allow the researchers to develop their knowledge in the field of neurosciences and their understanding in the human brain working.

“Learning from real life and not books”: A gamified approach to Business English task design in transatlantic telecollaboration

This paper deals with task design in the context of a telecollaboration project which was carried out in a Business English course among students from Spain and the United States. The goal was to provide students with opportunities to develop linguistic, intercultural and digital competences by interacting and collaborating online with native speakers of the target language. A task-based approach was adopted and enriched by gamification, the different tasks being designed with a view towards engaging students intrinsically in the learning process. This was achieved by means of the adoption of gamification strategies and techniques such as the use of points, performance graphs, quests, avatars, a reward system, peer assessment and the use of social media. Via technological immersion, students from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean were required to work together online to complete different tasks while exchanging peer feedback and assessment. The paper analyses and discusses participants’ views and perceptions about the gamified telecollaboration exchange. The quantitative and qualitative data were gathered by means of a pre- and a post-treatment questionnaires. Results indicate that students found this way of learning beneficial in terms of the development of different skills and competences (namely linguistic, digital and intercultural) and motivation.

Joseph Schumpeter’s economic thought is indissolubly linked to the study of entrepreneurship and innovation. In Business Cycles, the book planned to be ‘the crown of his work’, Schumpeter carefully crafted a theoretical framework in which both concepts are presented as the main engines of the cyclical economic evolution. This paper aims to offer a different view on this complex combination of economic theory, historical and statistical applied analyses which are today largely forgotten. Schumpeter’s theories of entrepreneurship and innovation are discussed within the general framework of his main intellectual legacy. Re-reading Schumpeter’s Business Cycles in the light of its scholarly reception, this study pays a special attention to some of the key reviews that critically addressed this book. The novelty of our approach lies in revealing the systematic emphasis placed upon the elements introduced by Schumpeter’s Business Cycles to his theories of innovation and entrepreneurship

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a field of managerial practice and academic research that has been flourishing notwithstanding the financial crisis that started in 2007. Maybe even the crisis contributed to the dissemination of practices and public sensitivity about transparency and non-financial reporting, which are constitutive elements of CSR. Many doubts about its own nature, that loomed about in the first years 2000 have been dispelled (we all remember the sceptical Economist’s special survey of 2005). The public has become aware of the various facets of corporate behavior. Such awareness has given momentum to CSR and it has even surpassed the initial impulse given by institutions such as the United Nations Global Compact and its ten principles on responsible behavior for international companies. Also, CSR managers within companies have been surpassed and CSR has become a subject for top management to think about. However, the field is still very much debated and a lot of scholarship is spent in analysing what CSR exactly is and how are companies abiding by it. Within this framework a new book has just come out that is of interest: “Current Issues in Corporate Social Responsibility: An International Consideration”. The book is a collection of articles edited by Samuel O. Idowu, Catalina Sitnikov, Dalia Simion and Claudiu G. Bocean. In order for us to present the specific contribution of this book, let us first review the specific content of it

The mediating role of employee job performance in the impact of open book management dimensions on customer satisfaction

This study aimed at investigating the impact of open book management (OBM) on customer satisfaction in the presence of employee job performance as a mediating variable. OBM was measured using employee empowerment, information sharing, employee training, and employee participation in organizational success. A sample consisted of 500 managers and employees from 10 industrial companies in Qassim region were participated in the study. Data were gathered using a questionnaire administered to participants. The final number of questionnaires received was 387 questionnaires with a response rate of 77.4 percent. The results showed positive as well as significant effects of employee training, empowerment and participation on employee job satisfaction and customer satisfaction. The results further pointed out that employee job performance mediated the effect of open book management dimensions on customer satisfaction. The originality of this study wells up from its contribution to literature as it underlined that employee training in the context of open book management should take the first priority, followed by employee empowerment as empowerment efforts do not bear its desired fruits in the absence of an employee who is able to properly implement what he or she empowered to do. It was recommended on the ground of these results to consider employee training, then employee empowerment in the context of OBM. An adoption of OBM is required to keep tabs on employee job performance in order to ensure an effective practice of OBM.

Book Review: The Changing Business Landscape of Romania

The transition of Romania’s economy from a centralized economic system to another one (such as the market economy) did not take place instantly, when the political orientation changed since 1990. In addition to political will, this process also requires time to enable the creation of specific laws and establishments, the adaptation of people to the new system and the creation of a business environment appropriate to a market-regulated economy. Against this new backdrop, competition has heated up, the proper operation of organizations depends directly on their managers’ skill, and the rules of the game have changed radically by contrast with those of the centralized system wherein Romania’s economy operated before 1990. Consequently, it was necessary to implement a complete restructuring of the way in which businesses were being conducted. This required new competences, attitudes and know-how. The academic community also needed time and sustained effort to accustom itself to the western management system peculiar to the market economy.

In the new century of Knowledge Economics, there is a close relationship between the quality level of publications in the publishing industry and the continuo its development of a nation's civilization. Generally speaking, the publishing ecology deals with the realm of originality, production, circulation and consumption; every element of these three categories is necessary and closely linked with one another. The circulation (books marketing), in particular plays an important role; it is not merely the assurance to the publisher but it is the essential requirement, the key success factor and the life strain to the prosperity of the publishing industry as well. The purpose of this research is to explore the bits mess transaction terms together with the possible implementation of innovated term of transaction on all process of the Books Marketing; a further study and analysis will also be made on Marketing Channels of the Book Publishing Industry based upon the 2003 Survey of Book Publishing Industry which is entrusted by Government Information Office and investigated by China Credit Information Service Ltd.. Finally, necessary recommendations will he made to business, organizations or units concerned for possible improvement or timely encouragement for appropriate implementations.
