The Environmental, Social and Governance Aspects of Social Responsibility Indices – A Comparative Analysis of European SRI Indices
Comparative Economic Research, Vol 21, Iss 3, Pp 25-44 (2018)
An increasing number of investors want to invest their capital not only with profit but also responsibly, and they pay significant attention to the formula of socially responsible investing (SRI), which means that they consciously engage their funds in companies operating in accordance with CSR principles. An important influence on the development of CSR is the role of stock exchange indices on socially responsible companies. These indices can be considered specific tools for adapting this concept in practice, in particular in the field of socially responsible investment.

Bird communities and vegetation composition in natural and semi-natural forests of megalopolis: correlations and comparisons of diversity indices (Kyiv city, Ukraine)
Ekológia (Bratislava), Vol 37, Iss 3, Pp 259-288 (2018)
Assessment of correlations and comparisons of diversity indices between birds communities and vegetation composition of the forest ecosystem is an important subject of synecological research to identify the intensity of human impact on the flora and fauna in megalopolis. Urban recreation is one of the major causes of violation of the structural and functional integrity of the forest ecosystem. Studies on avian complex and phytocoenosis have focused on the impact of urban recreation on the soil surface, compositions of trees, shrub and herbaceous layers and species, trophic and ecological compositions of nesting-birds and feeding-birds communities. This article compares the measurement of the diversity of bird communities and forestry vegetation (diversity indices, dominance indices, evenness indices) in the natural and semi-natural forests of the Kyiv city on a gradient of recreational transformation. The stands formed consist of Quercus robur L., Carpinus betulus L., Acer platanoides L., Tilia cordata L., Ulmus glabra Huds., Fraxinus excelsior L. and Prunus avium L. The floristic list comprised 65 grass species. A total of 49 species of avifauna were found, including 44 species that were protected by the Bern, Bonn and Washington Conventions. There were significant correlations between vertical and horizontal heterogeneities of tree distribution and abundance, species richness and nesting density of birds. The interrelationship between species diversity of birds and floristic richness was also confirmed.

Evaluation of Drought Tolerance Selection Indices Using Grain Yield in Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)
Notulae Scientia Biologicae, Vol 10, Iss 3, Pp 439-446 (2018)
Among abiotic stresses, drought is undoubtedly one of the most important ones, that have great impact on crop growth and productivity worldwide. Therefore, identifying of plants' performance against drought stress and estimating drought tolerance become a necessary part of the breeding phase. The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of several indices that combine drought tolerance and high yield potential in chickpea. The trials were conducted under both stressed and no-stressed environments for two growing seasons (2015/2016-2016/2017) in Southeast Anatolia Region of Turkey. Varyans analysis results showed that there were significant differences among genotypes regarding Yp, Ys, MP, MRP, GMP, REI, STI, MISTIk 1, MISTIk 2, HM, YI, PI, ATI, SNPI and RDY. The genotypes FLIP09-51C, FLIP97-503C and FLIP06-97C had high yield under non-stressed condition, while the genotypes FLIP09-51C, FLIP06-97C and ‘Aksu’ displayed high amount under stressed condition. Thus, the genotypes FLIP09-51C and FLIP06-97C were found as good candidates for commercial recommendation in both conditions. Spearman rank correlation matrix showed that drought indices were significantly related to each other. The yields in stress and no-stress conditions (Yp and Ys) showed a significant and positive correlation with MP, MRP, GMP, REI, STI, MSTIK1, MSTIK2 and HM and showed a negative correlation with PI and RDY. As a result, it has been found that MISTIK2, DI, HM, STI and YI can be used as optimal indicators for screening drought-tolerant genotypes, while FLIP09-51C, FLIP06-97C, EN934 and ‘Aksu’ varieties have been the most tolerant genotypes in terms of these indices examined in study.

Using different anthropometric indices to assess prediction ability of type 2 diabetes in elderly population: a 5 year prospective study
BMC Geriatrics, Vol 18, Iss 1, Pp 1-9 (2018)
Abstract Background Emerging studies have investigated the association between different anthropometric indices with diabetes risk but the results were inconsistent. The aims of the study were to examine the associations of different anthropometric indices with incident diabetes risk and whether novel anthropometric indices improve diabetes prediction beyond traditional indices among elderly Chinese. Methods Nine thousand nine hundred sixty-two elderly individuals (age ≥ 60 years old) derived from the prospective Dongfeng-Tongji cohort were included. Hazard ratio (HR) and corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) were evaluated by Cox proportional hazard model to examine the associations between traditional anthropometric indices (body mass index [BMI], waist circumference [WC], waist-to-height ratio [WHtR]), novel anthropometric indices (visceral adiposity index [VAI], a body shape index [ABSI], body roundness index [BRI]) and diabetes risk. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and area under curve (AUC) were applied to compare the novel anthropometric indices with the traditional indices in diabetes prediction. Results During mean 4.6 years of follow-up, 614 incident cases of type 2 diabetes (T2D) were identified. Significant positive associations were detected between BMI, WC, WHtR, VAI and BRI and incident T2D risk. For ABSI, no significant association was observed in either men or women. BMI was the strongest predictor in diabetes in men (AUC = 0.655) comparable with the other anthropometric indices (P < 0.05). Similar as men, BMI was the strongest predictor (AUC = 0.635) in women. Except for WC, the AUC of BMI was larger than WHtR, VAI, and BRI. In contrast, ABSI was not a good predictor in either men (AUC = 0.507) or women (AUC = 0.503). Conclusions In elderly Chinese, BMI, WC, WHtR, VAI and BRI were positively associated with incident T2D risk. Among them, BMI was the strongest predictor in both men and women.

The Values of Eccentricity-Based Topological Indices of Diamond Graphs
Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü Dergisi, Vol 22, Iss 2, Pp 285-289 (2018)

Graph theory has been studied different areas such as information, mathematics and chemistry sciences. Especially, it has been the most important mathematical tools for the study the analysis of chemistry. A topological index has been a numerical descriptor of the molecular structure derived from the corresponding molecular graph, also it has used vulnerability of chemical graphs. The vulnerability of a graph has been the reliability of the graph after the disruption of some vertices or edges until breakdown. There are a lot of topological indices which have been defined. Furthermore, the diamond graphs have been defined recently. In this paper, exact formulas for the eccentricity-based topological indices of diamond graphs have been obtained.

Relationship Between Acute Appendicitis and Platelet Indices in Childhood
Journal of Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care Medicine, Vol 5, Iss 2, Pp 64-68 (2018)
Introduction: Appendicitis is the inflammation of the appendix vermiformis. Clinical diagnosis of acute appendicitis in children is still a problem. Platelet indices, platelet distribution width and mean platelet volume have been evaluated for some infectious and inflammatory diseases. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether platelet distribution width values and mean platelet volume were decisive for the diagnosis of appendicitis in children. Methods: In our hospital, 504 pediatric patients who presented with acute abdomen and received the diagnosis of acute appendicitis between 2011 and 2016, and 106 children living in the same region, who attended the pediatric outpatient clinics for general follow-up, were included in the study. The patient and control groups were analyzed for gender, age, platelet count, platelet distribution width and mean platelet volume. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was drawn to describe the parameters that may be statistically significant. Results: There was a significant difference in platelet distribution width and mean platelet volume values between the two groups (p<0.001). The platelet distribution width values were higher and the mean platelet volume values were lower in appendicitis patients than in healthy children. The ROC curve analysis suggested a cut-off value of >14.3 fL for platelet distribution width for the diagnosis of appendicitis with a sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of 77.6%, 85.8%, 96.3%, and 44.6%, respectively. A cut-off value of <9.35 fL for mean platelet volume was used for the diagnosis of appendicitis with a sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of 78.1%, 81.1%, 95.2%, and 43.9%, respectively. Conclusion: Our results suggest that platelet distribution width and mean platelet volume may be used for the diagnosis of appendicitis in children with the sensitivity of at least 77.6% and 78.1%, respectively. Mean platelet volume and platelet distribution width, which can easily be investigated in complete blood count, may serve as markers for the diagnosis of appendicitis in children, however, further large-scale studies are needed.

Platelet indices and outcome after cardiac arrest
BMC Emergency Medicine, Vol 18, Iss 1, Pp 1-7 (2018)
Abstract Background Platelet variables, including platelet distribution width (PDW) and mean platelet volume (MPV), have been associated with outcome in critically ill patients. We evaluated these variables in patients after cardiac arrest (CA). Methods All adult CA patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) over an 8-year period (2006–2014) and treated with targeted temperature management were included. We retrieved all data concerning CA characteristics as well as platelet count, PDW and MPV on the first 2 days of admission. Unfavorable 3-month neurological outcome was defined as a cerebral performance category score of 3–5. Results We included 384 patients (age 62 [52–75] years; 270/384 male): 231 patients (60%) died within 30-days and 246 patients (64%) had an unfavorable 3-month neurological outcome. On admission, platelet count, PDW and MPV were 87 [126–261] *103cells/mm3, 17 [16.3–17.3]% and 8.3 [7.6–9.2] μm3, respectively. Platelet count decreased significantly over the first 2 days, whereas PDW and MPV did not change significantly. There were no significant differences between the values on admission or time-courses of platelet count, PDW or MPV between survivors and non-survivors or between patients with unfavorable and favorable neurological outcome. Conclusions In our cohort of post-CA patients, PDW and MPV were not associated with outcome.
